Overview

As a part of the clean energy commitments, India plants to install 40,000 MW of PV Rooftop Solar systems by 2022.Accordingly, to support this target Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the “Grid Connected Rooftop and Small Solar Power Plants Programme (GCRT)” in the year 2014. To contribute towards India’s sustainable and inclusive development objectives, MNRE and European Union formed the PV Rooftop Cell under the “Technical Cooperation for Energy and Environment in India”.

The Cell started its operations in July 2016 under the leadership of then Join Secretary Mr. Santosh Vaidya and has been assisting MNRE in its constant endeavour to promote and implement Grid Connected and Small Power Plant Programme in India.

Major Activities of the PV Rooftop Cell:

  • Promotion of the PV Rooftop Programme at various platforms;
  • Simplification of SPIN portal - the official GCRT platform of MNRE;
  • Rooftop Solar data segregation and its analysis;
  • Development of Model and Standard documents;
  • Training and Webinars for various stakeholders;
  • Discover the need and develop & propose new concept and ideas;
  • Representing MNRE at National Platforms, Workshops and Conferences;
  • Market Analysis and Studies

 The PV Rooftop Cell developed the only comprehensive information guide available on PV Rooftop Programme of Govt. of India which was launched by Secretary MNRE in January 2017
